After last night's rather unpleasant visit to the waterfront to list the various Sailing Coasters and their destinations, those mariner friends amongst you will remember I returned home by closed carriage, hoping for a vegetable broth filled with suet dumplings, washed down with a jug of mulled ale. My hopes were realised, and I ate a hearty meal in front of our blackleaded range, the brass handles and knobs of which glistened in the oil-lamp light. In the warmth, I slowly dropped off into a well earned, deep sleep. My wife did not rouse me, and covered me with a patchwork quilt............I woke early to find the sun streaming through a chink in the window drapes, so I am off to do some more walks around the streets looking for relatives.

I have enjoyed this morning's walk, the fog cleared early and the sun rose, deep red in the east. Whether this is a bad omen, I don't know, but all being well I will be back down the docks this evening. Next time I tramp round the streets, I will be commencing with COLQUITT STREET.
